New Zealand Sauvignon, but not as you know it. The grapes are left on the skins to ferment, giving the wine a little tannin and some serious mouthfeel. Once bottled, the wine is aged before release. This is 2015, and it’s an oily, weighty monster. A flavour sensation – notes of peach, white grapefruit, preserved lemon and smoke.
Supernatural Wine Company are a small (9 hectare) estate, specialising in a variety of natural expressions of Sauvignon Blanc. Their labels are distinctive and quirky, the dark glass of their bottles imposing, and this wine is sealed with a crown cap, ensuring freshness and informality.
