Walnut Block is a small, five hectare family owned and operated vineyard in Marlborough, New Zealand. The oldest walnut tree in New Zealand towers above the vineyard, and inspires the name of the estate and this wine.
Clyde Sowman, the producer of Walnut Block wines, is particularly proud of his 2019 vintage. It’s a full throttle affair – powerfully juicy, with tropical notes of passionfruit and guava.
The grapes are handpicked (a rarity in the largely mechanised world of Marlborough Sauvignon), and 30% of them are wild fermented in oak, adding complexity and roundness to the wine.
A great partner to a good goats’ cheese.
